The 1st Aero Squadron, the United States oldest flying unit was stationed at Mitchel Field, on Long Island, NY from 10/10/1919 through 11/06/1940. The squadron aided in training and experimentation during the interwar years and made several advancements in the US Military during this time. The 1st Aero Squadron insignia is painted on the museum’s Fokker D.VII to reflect the aircraft stationed on the base during this period.
